Best Man [14 Nov 2006|06:58am]
[ mood | touched ]

So yesterday I got a call from my cousin in Medicine Hat. I wasn't home, but I returned his call right away because Courtney's mom said it sounded urgent. We were supposed to call each other every month, but have yet to do so. I thought he was starting er up so I was stoked. I called him right back and he told me that he and his long time girlfriend just bought a house. Then he told me that he asked her to marry him the day before. This was all good news and I congratulated him. Then he began to ask me another question and I cut him off before he could even finish. You see, back when we were kids we promised one another that we would be each other's best man at our weddings. I told him that it would be my honor to be his best man. We hung out alot before I moved to the island. There was a pretty good crew of us and I keep in touch, but not as much as I should. It really touched me that he would still ask me. Now I have to start thinking about what the hell to do for the bachelor party and of course the speech I have to give in front of our massive family (and I mean massive! we're talking 100's of people here). I also gotta get into some serious shape, lots of pictures are going to be taken and I wanna look my finest.

So Very Bored [04 Oct 2006|11:44am]
[ mood | blah ]

I'm sitting in the curic lab at school trying to work on my Social Studies homework. So very boring. I am so un-enthused by this class. I thought I might like Social Studies this year, but its turning out to be just as boring as in High School. Oh well, just another hoop to jump through to become a teacher. On a good note, my friend, who is a mechanic, is taking Shmeng and I out today to look at some vehiculars!!! So hopefully we will have a car again soon that isn't a POS. Alright enough procrastinating, time to get this piece of shit done.

I love my MacBook. It makes schooling fun.

I gave it to Shmeng because she has been wanting one for so long. How coincidental that she was just talking about it the other day!

Top Gun [27 Aug 2006|01:00pm]
[ mood | amused ]

So last night we decide to watch Top Gun to pay homage to the t-shirt I designed. Actually, Courtney has never seen the film in its entirety and wanted to watch it. Long story short, Top Gun has to be one of the "gayest" films ever made. Now dont get me wrong, I have nothing against those who putt from the ruff. The first scene that comes to mind is the volleyball game. Or the pilots' first day of school. Here is what 2 pilots say to each other ...

Pilot 1: *leans over to 2nd pilot* "This is giving me a hard on"

Pilot 2: *looks into eyes of 1st pilot "Dont tease me"

BRUTAL!!! haha

How bout' this one: Tower commander comes out of Viper's office yelling about Maverick and Goose's flyby ...

"I want someone's butt ... I WANT BUTTS"

GAAAAAAAAAAY! aaaah hahaha

Or this one: Locker room scene. All guys are wearing towels (expected in a locker room). However, Maverick walks up to Goose, who is sitting on a bench. Maverick puts his leg up on the bench, easily exposing his F-16 (and by F-16 I mean schlong). I think I even saw Goose take a look at Mavericks cash and prizes.

Well I loved the movie when I was five but now its good for a laugh. I still stand by my shirt which you can go look at here

http://www.walkingdeadpromotions.com

It's called "Iceman"

I think I better start writing more in the journal as Courtney made it look so damn good for me!

Why I love her so [05 Aug 2004|09:20pm]
[ mood | loved ]

So I get home tonight from work late and I have to be back to werk early tomorrow morning at like 7:45. I rushed in to clean up the spare room for my guests comming tomorrow (Ski Life and his lady friend). I grab the vacuum, get changed to clean, and open the door to the spare room to find it spotless already with the bed made up. How sweet was it for Courtney to do this for me today?!!! I'll tell you how sweet! I am so lucky to have her in my life. That really made my day and made me feel so good. I love you Shmeng. Thank you so very much.

Been so Long [18 Jan 2004|01:37pm]
[ mood | happy ]

thought i'd better update this piece! back in schoo again ... crypes! its been almost 3 weeks since i've been back. time flies! this semester rules cause i'm only in 3 classes and 2 of them are with my buddy andrew. not too much is new with me. my editors at the schoo paper are stocked with my work and want me to write more, but i dont know if i want to commit myself to anything to grand. i just like writing the odd music review when something i like comes through. i'm getting super stocked for this years warped tour, i'm already starting to save some coin cause there are so many bands that i want merch from! today i am taking shmeng to the bridal fair (dont worry we're just going for kicks, not to shop!) i hope there is free cake! haha. here is the review that i did for Billy Talent, i am pretty happy with it! anawayz the boss is callin! Lates.

In the sea of radio waves we are plagued with Sum 41s, Simple Plans, and Blink 182s. It seems each week there is a new band hopping on the already over-crowded carbon copy wagon. However, every once in a while a band slips through the major label’s fingers. Billy Talent’s debut release is a refreshing change from … well, everything else.
As soon as “This is How it Goes” starts the disc, the listener is blessed with catchy guitar hooks and fist-pounding drum beats. But the true power of Billy Talent resonates in its lead singer, Benjamin Kowalewicz. This guy is wound up tighter than Michael Jackson’s bed sheets; and when released screams louder than Paris Hilton in her Internet videos. Although there is one song about an ex-girlfriend, Kowalewicz does not solely rely on this ever-popular topic to get through the album. Kowalewicz’s relentless vocal prowess never putters out, right through to the explosive concluding song “Voices of Violence.”
As an added bonus, the CD is enhanced with a behind the scenes documentary on the band which can be viewed on a computer. Today, artists can no longer shrink-wrap their albums without adding something extra to entice a sale instead of a download. Billy Talent has succeeded in this task as the video embarks on the band’s time in the studio as well as stage footage. Billy Talent’s insistence that the album’s price tag be kept low, combined with the added video, makes this disc a steal for the budget-conscious punk rocker.

RATING: 9/10

The Last of the Blog ... [01 Dec 2003|07:05pm]
[ mood | crazy ]

I figured that for my last Blog entry for class I would talk about an issue that means something to me. Something above and beyond a meaningful quote or reading. Something that ultimately defines me and what I am about ... What I will talk about is my favorite T.V. show as of late. Six Feet Under dudes and dudettes! This show owns! I know that my English teacher is not to thrilled about this show, but I have never been so stoked about a show before. Above all else, Six Feet isn't a reality show! I havent watched a decent show with actors in it for years! The show bases itself around a family who owns and operates a funeral home. Six Feet, like other HBO shows, always pushes the envelope. It brings up all kinds of issues through its characters; from death to homosexuality. The characters are, in my opinion, all likable. My favorite aspect of the show is that every episode begins with the death of someone. This death sets up each individual episode because the person who dies is taken to the funeral home. I know it seems confusing, but it is also pretty simple. All I can say though is check it out if you can. I rented the first season on DVD and immediately downloaded the second and third season on my computer, incidentally staying up till 2 every night to watch them all. I am now going through withdrawl because I have no idea when season 4 is due. I have tried to watch the other new HBO show called Carnivale, but it is just not the same. Season three also left on a cliffhanger so I am basically stuck here.

On a separate note, I have been listening to a band called Armor for Sleep lately and they have a stellar line in one of their songs:

"If I were sand and you were oceans, the moon would be why you're pulled to me."
- Armor for Sleep

It caught my ear the first time I heard it. It's a powerful line that relays a simple message. Well thats about all for me. I have so much to do and I am drastically running out of time to do it. Lates!

Bloggin'er back in Sidney! [30 Nov 2003|09:54pm]

"Humour is by far the most significant activity of the human brain".
- Edward De Bono

Man! My English teacher has been pickin' some steller quotes for the thoughts of the day this go round! I have not done an entry on any of our readings yet! I find the thoughts of the day relate to me more than the readings, but anaaaaaaaawayz! Humour is what gets me through my day. If I dont make someone laugh at least once a day then I have done something horribly wrong. Eddie here has got it all figured out! Humour is the most significant aspect of the brain because it's sole purpose is to make happiness. Humour comes in all shapes. A funny joke or a silly face can can make someone laugh, thereby creating humour. The world would be a pretty bleak joint if there was no humour shared between its inhabitants. Its funny how different everyones humour is. My girlfriend tells me all the time that I am funny, but to a stranger I may seem rude and abnoxious. And those strangers probably have a completely different sense of humour. All in all I must be somewhat funny because I do make paople laugh. I think it is one of my most favorite personality traits, therefore, I believe that Eddie's quote hauls ass and makes complete sense!

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!

"A writer is, after all, only half his book. The other half is the reader and from the reader the writer learns."
- P.L. Travers

This thought of the day from awile back caught my eye because I think it relates to my previous entry. A writer, as I have learned, is constantly learning to improve his/her work. The best way to do this is to get other people to read your work. This is why we have peer edits in class before we hand in a paper! When someone actually takes the time to read my work, and critique it properly, I come out of the experience learning how to improve my writing. However, the only way we learn form the reader is if they put in a concious effort to critque the authors work. I pumped out 10 copies of one of my papers for a peer edit. In total I think I received less than half of them back with anything useful to me writen on them. I guess what I am trying to say here is that if a reader takes the time to read an authors work, he or she can give the writer useful information to help with their work. I know that I have been reading peoples papers a little more carefully lately so that I can help. Till later ... Brenner OUUUUUUUUUUT!

"Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go." - E.L. Doctorow

How true is this quote?! I have definitely found some meaning in this quote as of late. I have written so much this semester, and through all of my writing I have learned a great deal. I believe in what Doctorow says that writing is an exploration, especially in regards to ones own self. Writing can allow one to express themselves and put emotions into words. My English 250 class has taught me more about writing than any other class I have taken. It is true that my previous English classes have improved my writing and grammar, but this class has shown me "style". I am beginning to enjoy writing because I have not been confined to standard essay formats. I am sure I will continue to learn more as I write just as the quote says! Lates!

Oh ya! my review is in the Camosun paper this week for any of you Camosun goers to check out!

Blogging Action [24 Nov 2003|09:02am]

"If we don't believe in freedom of speech for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all."
-Noam Chomsky

When I read this quote, I instantly thought of the Dixie Chicks and their dealings with the President earlier last year. When Bush declared war on Iraq the Dixie's voiced their opinion at one of their concerts. They said that they were ashamed of Bush as a President. You would think that a nation with a freedom of speech act would have no problem with the Dixie's opinion. On the contrary, their opinion caused an uproar. The Chicks' albums were yanked from the shelves and were told that they would be put back out for sale when they apologized to the President for their "harsh words". This is where the hypocrisy sinks in. What is the point of having freedom of speech, or saying that a nation does, when you cant say what is on your mind without harsh consequences? In the end the Chicks eventually caved and apologized; however, I'm sure there was pressure from their major label. I mean the Dixie's label can't be losing sales because the girls want to speak their minds (note the sarcasm here folks). And whats the deal with Micheal Moore? He can say whatever the hell he wants and his documentary and books don't get taken off the shelves. He said just as harsh things at last years Oscar's. I think Moore is played out and a hack, but thats a whole other can'o'beans. Just something to think about though. I think Chomsky has an intriguing point here and I can see why so many punk bands use his speeches in their songs.

Pullin' the Shoot [19 Nov 2003|12:57am]
[ mood | content ]

Well I pulled the shoot tonight and quit the band I was in. I have come to the realization that I just dont have the time and energy to be in a serious band. The boys I was playing with just wanted to giv'er to much and I have other goals in my future. I really have to concentrate on getting into UVIC because I do not want to have to move to Nanimo. I hope the guys in the band will understand. I feel it was better to get out now than keep playing to only pull out later when the stress of school really started to sink in. On a happier not I finished the review of the new All-American Rejects DVD for the school newspaper. It turned out to be pretty funny. I had fun writing it and would like to do more reviews. Well see how that pans out. Anyways, just had to vent a bit. Lates

Rest In Peace [09 Nov 2003|04:12pm]
[ mood | old ]

Weird news yesterday. Face to Face has officially called it quits! I couldn't believe it when I heard it! The more I think of it though the more it makes sense. I think it was good that they bowed out now instead of beating a dead horse like the rest of the old time rockers like the Stones and Kiss. Face to Face was an awesome band and I'll miss hearing new music from them, but I dont think they could keep writing what they have already been doing for so long. Anyways, thats that I guess. Oh ya I'm feeling rally old too cause I have a Face to Face tour shirt from 95! ouch!
